maldenMalden Access Television (MATV), which is now Urban Media Arts (UMA), launched its citizen journalism project in 2014.

This initiative trains and supports local citizens to cover subjects and issues in their own communitythrough interviewing, writing and reporting. Photography is used to enhance the stories and we also experiment with video other multimedia formats. Journalists go through an editing process with a professional journalist and are trained to upload their final news stories to NeighborhoodView.org.

You must be a member of the Malden community or have a strong desire to learn more about Malden.  The program also accepts student interns from area colleges and universities, and partners with local high schools and community groups.

Citizen journalism is intended to engage citizens of a community into local action around issues, events and initiatives, build awareness of local news and increase community connection.
